Shelley Butler

Shelley Butler has worked extensively with writers on new plays and musicals and her work has been seen on stages across the country. Recent productions include the world premiere and New York premiere of The Most Deserving by Catherine Trieschmann (Denver Center Theatre Company, Women’s Project), the world premiere of This is Fiction by Megan Hart, starring Richard Masur at Cherry Lane (InViolet Rep), Agamemnon 2.0 (Cadbury Theatre, UK) and the world premier of Oz 2.5 by Catherine Treischmann for South Coast Repertory. She served as Associate Director on the Broadway production of It Shoulda Been You.

Ms. Butler spent two seasons as artistic associate in charge of new play development for Hartford Stage and three seasons as artistic associate for Great Lakes Theater Festival. She has directed and developed new work for numerous theaters including Hartford Stage, South Coast Repertory, Denver Center Theatre Company, GEVA, New York Stage and Film, Primary Stages, E.S.T., Women’s Project, Dallas Lyric Stage, PlayPenn, New Dramatists, the Lark, New Georges, Ma-Yi, Dixon Place, The Playwright’s Realm, Urban Stages, Keen Company, Terra Nova, GroundUp and InViolet Rep. Ms. Butler is the recipient of a Drama League Fall Directing Fellowship, a 2005 Director’s Guild of America Trainee with rotations on E.R., BONES, THE UNIT and multiple pilots, a member of SDC, the Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab and the Women’s Project Directors Lab and a New George’s affiliated artist.
