James A. Williams

 

James A. Williams  (Us/ We/Ours) James most recently appeared at The Rechnitz Theater in August Wilson’s, Gem of the Ocean. He originated the role of Roosevelt Hicks in the world premiere of August Wilson’s Radio Golf  at Yale Repertory Theatre and continued on through Broadway. His Off-Broadway credits include August Wilson’s Jitney, Marion McClinton’s Walkers, The Piano Lesson and My Children! My Africa! His regional credits include Friar Lawrence In Romeo & Juliet, Gloucester in King Lear, Camillo in The Winter”s Tale at The Guthrie Theatre, Othello at Park Square Theatre as well as multiple roles in August Wilson’s Twentieth-Century Cycle at The Kennedy Center. He has appeared at Centerstage, The Guthrie Theater, Mark Taper Forum, McCarter Theatre Center, Penumbra Theatre, and Seattle Repertory Theatre. He is an Acting Coach and Instructor for 3rd year students in The University of MN/ Guthrie Theater BFA Program.  James was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and named Artist of the Year by The Minneapolis StarTribune in 2008. He is also a McKnight Theater Fellow, a Fox Foundation Distinguished Acting Fellow and a Ten Chimneys Acting Fellow.
