Scott Ebersold is a theatre director and dramaturg specializing in new plays and musicals and the reinvention of classic texts. His work combines close attention to language with visually driven staging and a particular interest in how an audience encounters a story. His career reflects a longstanding commitment to queer stories and to collaborating with writers whose work centers communities historically marginalized onstage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott developed and directed the Off-Broadway premiere of Max Vernon\u2019s musical The View UpStairs<\/em>. The production received three Drama Desk Award nominations and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations and earned Scott an AUDELCO\/Viv Award nomination for Best Director. His recent work includes the world premiere of Gina Femia\u2019s Mercutio Loves Romeo Loves Juliet Loves<\/em> for Boomerang Theatre Company; Amy Crossman\u2019s The Great Divide<\/em> at HERE Arts Center; and The Laramie Project<\/em> at UC Davis, where he served as Granada Artist-in-Residence and Visiting Professor. Mercutio Loves Romeo Loves Juliet Loves<\/em> received the 2026 Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ+ Drama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other selected directing and development credits include Charles L. His musical theatre work includes The Peculiar Tale of the Prince of Bohemia and the Society of Desperate Victorians<\/em> at Goodspeed\u2019s Festival of New Musicals, Andrew Lippa\u2019s The Wild Party<\/em>, The Gifts of the Magi<\/em>, and Concrete Jungle<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Scott is the Founding Artistic Director of Packawallop Productions and a former Artistic Associate at Classic Stage Company. He has worked in the literary department of Tectonic Theater Project and assisted directors Tina Landau, John Doyle, and Trip Cullman. He is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and an alumnus of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab. He holds a BFA in Drama from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Theatre Directing from Columbia University, where he studied with Anne Bogart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
