Scott Ebersold is a queer theatre director who specializes in new plays and musicals, and reinventing classics. He developed and directed the Off-Broadway premier of Max Vernon\u2019s new musical\u00a0The View UpStairs<\/em>\u00a0that was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards, two Lucille Lortell Awards, and for which he was nominated for an Audelco Award for Best Director. Other musicals include: Dan Marshall, Becca Blackmore and Julian Blackmore\u2019s\u00a0The Peculiar Tale of the Price of Bohemia and the Society of Desperate Victorians<\/em>\u00a0(Goodspeed Opera House), Bobby Cronin and Crystal Skillman\u2019s\u00a0Concrete Jungle<\/em>\u00a0(DDM Productions), Andrew Lippa\u2019s\u00a0Wild Party<\/em>\u00a0(Post Theatre Company),\u00a0The Gifts of the Magi (<\/em>Tilles Center for the Performing Arts), and NYMF\u2019s\u00a0Explorers<\/em>\u00a0concert\u00a0at the Signature Center Griffin Theatre. Other plays include: Briandaniel Oglesby\u2019s\u00a0Small Steps<\/em>\u00a0(Portland Center Stage), Charles L. Mee\u2019s trilogy\u00a0Imperial Dreams<\/em>\u00a0(Classic Stage Company), Shakespeare\u2019s\u00a0A Comedy of Errors\u00a0<\/em>(Boomerang Theatre Company), Dan Marshall\u2019s\u00a0A Murder of Crows<\/em>\u00a0(Boomerang Theatre Company), Jordan Seavey\u2019s\u00a0Children at Play<\/em>\u00a0(Collaboration Town, The Advocate\u2019s \u201cTop 10 Gay Plays of 2009\u201d), Adam Szymkowicz\u2019s\u00a0Rare Birds\u00a0<\/em>(Red Fern), Anne Carson\u2019s\u00a0Orestes<\/em>\u00a0(Columbia Stages), August Strindberg\u2019s\u00a0Miss Julie<\/em>\u00a0(Smith Street Stage) Joshua Conkel\u2019s\u00a0America, You Kill Me<\/em>,\u00a0Jeffrey James Keyes\u2019s\u00a0The End of Days<\/em>, and Ken Urban\u2019s\u00a0Edgar and Patrick.\u00a0<\/em>He co-conceived, developed, and directed a workshop of Lauren Whitehead\u2019s\u00a0The Play Which Raises the Question of What Happened in Low Income Communities between 1974 – 2004\u00a0And Hints at Why Mass Incarceration is Perhaps a Man Made Disease\u00a0And Highlights the Government\u2019s General Lack of Empathy for Poor People of Color And Dispels the Notion that Our Condition is Our Fault And Helps Make Visible Why We Riot When We Mourn\u00a0And also Tells the Story of Anita Freeman & her Kids<\/em>\u00a0(Catwalk Arts Residency, Judson Memorial Church).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As artistic director of Packawallop Productions Scott worked closely withplaywright Alejandro Morales directing many of his plays including: the silent concerto<\/em> (Outstanding Director Award Winner, FringeNYC), the october crisis<\/em>, marea<\/em> (HERE), and expat\/inferno<\/em> (Best Overall Production Award Winner, FringeNYC). He also directed  the premieres of Kari Bentley-Quinn\u2019s Paper Cranes <\/em>andAdam Szymkowicz\u2019s Nerve.<\/em> At Columbia University Scott directed an updated version of Tony Kushner\u2019s A Bright Room Called Day<\/em> that he developed with Lauren Whitehead (Columbia Stages\/Connelly Theater). He also directed Chekov\u2019s Three Sisters <\/em>and Brecht\u2019s Baal<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott\u2019s devised theatre work includes: Elevation,<\/em> a multimedia exploration of motherhood and loss, developed with filmmaker Lauren Fritz at The Vineyard Arts Project and The Calmative, <\/em>created with Murray Bartlett, Sevrin Mason and Dan Stearns, based on the writings of Samual Beckett and Nancy Cunard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He assisted Tina Landau at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and John Doyle on the first major NYC revival of Roger and Hammerstein\u2019s Allegro<\/em> at Classic Stage Company, as well as Mr. Doyle\u2019s City Center Stage\u2019s revival of Irma La Deuce<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has directed two films: The Moment<\/em> written by Adam Szymkowicz (Gotham Screen Festival Premiere) and Quartet<\/em> written by Lauren Fritz. He also co-wrote and directed a pilot for a web-series called Raptured<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott is Founding Artistic Director of Packawallop Productions, former Artistic Associate at Classic Stage Company, an alum of Lincoln Center Theater\u2019s Director\u2019s Lab and the Tectonic Theater\u2019s Literary Department. He holds a BFA in Drama from New York University and an MFA in Theatre Directing from Columbia University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
