SOUTHERN HAUNT
\nAddison, the last of her family line, is holding court behind the bar of the local dive, when Ty, a Brooklyn hipster with a serious case of writer\u2019s block, comes looking for a story. But they both get more than they bargained for, as the hot, late night awakens ghosts of the past\u2026recent and otherwise. A sexy Southern gothic thriller, set in the city of Savannah.<\/p>\n

\nSet here and now, in an empty college theater, as students get ready for a production of Thornton Wilder\u2019s Our Town \u2013 and 50 years earlier, when a production of Our Town was suddenly cancelled. This play is a love letter to people who make theater\u2026and the ghosts that won\u2019t let them go.<\/p>\n

BIO: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Kathryn Walat is an award-winning playwright, whose work has been produced across the country, as well as an opera librettist. Play include: CREATION (Theatre @ Boston Court; LA Stage Alliance\u2019s Ovation Award for Playwriting nomination), BLEEDING KANSAS (Hangar Theatre; Francesca Primus Citation\/American Theatre Critics Association), VICTORIA MARTIN: MATH TEAM QUEEN (Women\u2019s Project; published in \u201cNew Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2007\u201d), SEE BAT FLY (Kilroy\u2019s List 2014; Brown-Trinity Playwrights Rep), ANCIENT GODS OF THE BACKWOODS (New Georges\u2019 Germ Project), KNOW DOG (Salvage Vanguard), JOHNNY HONG KONG (Perishable Theatre), ON THE ROAD anthology project (Actors\u2019 Theatre of Louisville). As a librettist, her opera work includes: PAUL\u2019S CASE (Pittsburgh Opera, Prototype Festival; The New Yorker\u2019s \u201c10 notable productions of 2014\u201d), JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (young adult opera; Lyric Opera of Chicago), THE ECHO DRIFT (co-librettist; Prototype Festival).<\/p>\n

Plays-in-progress include ROMEO & NAOMI RAMIREZ (The Kilroy\u2019s List; Ruth Easton reading series\/Playwrights\u2019 Center; SheWrites Festival), SMALL TOWN VALUES (The Kilroy\u2019s honorable mention; The O\u2019Neill\u2019s National Playwrights Conference; PlayLabs), and SOUTHERN HAUNT (Finalist for The O\u2019Neill, developed at Actor\u2019s Express and the Playwrights\u2019 Center). Kate is currently working on a new play, MARY SHELLEY AND THE CREATURE, as an Audrey Resident at New Georges, where she is also an Affiliated Artist. She is an Assistant Professor and Playwright-in-Residence at SUNY Albany, and splits her time between Upstate and NYC.
