\"\"RAYE BIRK<\/span><\/strong> has been a professional actor for 50 years and has worked at numerous regional theatres including the Milwaukee Rep., the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Yale Rep., Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, South Coast Rep. in Costa Mesa, CA and the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. \u00a0Raye is a native of Flint, MI and his theatre training includes degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and an MFA from the University of Minnesota. \u00a0He was the recipient of a McKnight Fellowship in graduate school and a Fox Foundation Fellowship in 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n

He performed for nine season with the American Conservatory Theatre of San Francisco, playing leading roles in <\/span>The Browning Version, The Three Sisters, Pantagleize, Equus, Travesties, Hotel Paradiso, A Christmas Carol, A Moon for the Misbegotten <\/em>and<\/span> The Taming of the Shrew<\/em>. \u00a0He returned to ACT for five years to recreate his highly-acclaimed performance as Scrooge in <\/span>A Christmas Carol<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the 20 years he lived in Los Angeles he appeared in nearly 150 television show, including recurring roles on <\/span>LA Law, The Wonder Years, Coach, Cheers, Silk Stalkings, Dear John, The Popcorn Kid <\/em>and<\/span> The Black Scorpion<\/em> as well as episodes of <\/span>Babylon 5, X-Files, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Touched by an Angel, ER, Seinfeld, Murphy Brown, Star Trek, Picket Fences, Alf, Perry Mason<\/em> and numerous TV movies. \u00a0His feature films appearances include <\/span>Doc Hollywood, Throw Momma From the Train, The War of the Roses, Naked Gun & Naked Gun 33 1\/3, Class Act <\/em>and <\/span>Burglar.<\/em> Since moving to the Twin cities he has done four feature films here: <\/span>Factotum, North Country, Sweetland<\/em> and <\/span>A Serious Man<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In spring of 2003 Raye and his wife Candace Barrett moved back to the Twin Cities where he has since appeared in 27 productions at the Guthrie Theater, including <\/span>The Sunshine Boys, Long Days Journey Into Night, Othello, A Delicate Balance, Faith Healer, Pride and Prejudice, 1776, The Great Gatsby, Third, The Winter’s Tale, Pygmalion, His Girl Friday, MacBeth, The Crucible, West Side Story <\/em>and four seasons as Scrooge in<\/span> A Christmas Carol<\/em>. \u00a0Other Twin Cities appearances include <\/span>Old Wicked Songs<\/em> with Theatre Latte Da, <\/span>The Last Word<\/em> and <\/span>Shul<\/em> with the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company, and <\/span>King Lear<\/em> at Park Square Theatre. \u00a0Raye also created <\/span>The Actors WorkOut,<\/em> which was an ongoing training studio at the Guthrie Theater for professionally oriented performers.<\/span><\/p>\n

He joined Mark Rylance and the cast of <\/span>Nice Fish<\/em> at St. Ann\u2019s Warehouse in Brooklyn and continued the run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London\u2019s West End.<\/span><\/p>\n

Raye and Candace currently make their home in Northampton Massachusetts.<\/span><\/p>\n
