When a prominent Black conservative brings his mysteriously ill wife home for the holidays, the unplanned (and unwelcomed) reunion sets long simmering political tensions within the family to boil \u2013 and throws each member into a bizarre maze of Reaganomics, Cold War espionage, capitalist cult predation, and\u2026 choir practice. Cold War Choir Practice is a darkly comedic thriller (with music!) \u2013 just in time for the holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throwback Island &#8211; Six \u201csexy singles\u201d go to a secluded island for nostalgia soaked good vibes, #truelove, and a chance to win a $100K. But when a strongman bachelor enters the villa there\u2019s a lot more at stake than a pot of money\u2026 Throwback Island is a dark and eerie satire that explores homegrown, all-American fascism through a bonkers reality dating show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bio:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ro Reddick is a queer Black playwright, songwriter, and educator. She writes off-kilter comedies; the theme songs to your late capitalist nightmares. Her play <em>Cold War Choir Practice <\/em>won the 2026 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was produced Off-Broadway in a co-production with MCC, Clubbed Thumb, and Page 73. The play originally premiered in Clubbed Thumb\u2019s Summerworks 2025 (NYT Critic\u2019s Pick, dir. Knud Adams). <em>Cold War Choir Practice <\/em>was also produced in September 2025 at Trinity Rep (dir. Aileen Wen McGroddy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ro is the 2025 &#8211; 2026 recipient of the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award from the Vineyard Theatre, where she is an artist-in-residence. Additional awards include the John Gassner Award for New American Play \u201826 and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play \u201826; nominations include: Drama Desk nods for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Music in a Play \u201826, Lucille Lortel, Drama League, and Dorian Theater Award nods for Outstanding Play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ro is a member of LCT\u2019s Helen Gurley Brown Fellowship for Writers and TFANA\u2019s Living Shakespeare Lab, and an Audrey Resident at New Georges. She is an alum of the Page 73 Writers Group, the PWC Core Apprentice Program, the DGF Playwriting Fellowship, and People\u2019s Light QPA. Her plays have been developed by The Vineyard Theatre, The Ground Floor (Berkeley Rep), Bushwick Starr Reading Series, Williamstown Theatre Festival (NYC Reading, dir. Jamario Stills), and People\u2019s Light.
