He is a veteran actor, director, writer and producer of stage, screen and television. As an actor on stage he acted in classic plays and portrayed the roles of Walter Lee in Lorraine Hansberry\u2019s <em>A Raisin in the Sun,<\/em> Oscar Madison in Neil Simon\u2019s <em>The Odd Couple <\/em>and Solly Two Kings in August Wilson\u2019s <em>Gem of the Ocean<\/em>. Mr. Smith\u2019s most recent television credits include, <em>FBI, Law &amp; Order: SVU,<\/em> <em>Blue Bloods<\/em>, <em>The Breaks<\/em>, and as far back as <em>ER<\/em>, <em>M*A*S*H,<\/em> <em>Growing Pains,<\/em> <em>Hill Street Blues<\/em>, <em>Highway to Heaven<\/em>, <em>Matlock,<\/em> and beginning with <em>The White Shadow<\/em>. On film, he co-starred as \u201cSgt. Phil McPherson\u201d opposite Robin Williams and Forest Whitaker in the comedy classic <em>Good Morning Vietnam, <\/em>Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as \u201cDet. Tom Wyler\u201d in the action classic <em>Lethal Weapon 2<\/em>, as \u201cChief\u201d in <em>Friends and Romans<\/em> and as \u201cAnthony the Post Master\u201d in <em>Colewell<\/em> opposite Karen Allen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former Artistic Director of 4 theatre companies from 1979 to 1998: The Renaissance Drama Company and Mattie Theatre Company in New York, and Rainbow Connection Drama Company and Rebirth Drama Company in Los Angeles, where he directed over 100 plays including; &nbsp;<em>For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf,<\/em> <em>One Flew Over The Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/em>, <em>Ceremonies in Dark Old Men<\/em>, <em>Livin Fat<\/em>, and <em>Twelve Angry Men<\/em>. In 1988, he wrote the stage play <em>The Nation<\/em> (A story of the Nation of Islam).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing an intensive film-making program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Mr. Smith transformed the stage play into his first feature film, <em>The Nation<\/em>, in 1992. In 1999, along with partners, Juney formed the movie production company Drummond and Smith Entertainment Inc., which was later renamed Rainbow Media Group, Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has written, directed and produced 25 feature films under the umbrella where all the films are distributed in the major retail stores online at Walmart, Best Buy, Target and Amazon and digital markets nationwide. Films such as <em>City Teacher\/A Hard Lesson<\/em> starring Glynn Turman, Ella Joyce, Elain Graham, Frank Vincent, Chuck D and Tommy Ford; <em>Fake Preacher<\/em> starring Eddie Goines and Alyah Horsford and <em>Clockin\u2019 Green<\/em> starring Joyce Sylvester and Ella Joyce, Charles Weldon and Dean Irby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The documentary film <em>King of Stage: The Woodie King Jr. Story<\/em> starring Woodie King Jr., Founder and Producing Director of the famed \u201cNew Federal Theatre,\u201d in which he was awarded the Pan African Film Festival 2018 Documentary Director\u2019s Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He followed that up in 2019 with the documentary film <em>\u201cThe Robeson Effect<\/em>\u201d about the life and times of actor Danny Glover.
