Synopses:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Alabaster Virgin – (1M, 1W) Two people connect through a support group for parents of drug addicts. As their children take a path through the thickets of addiction, Maeve and Ben take their own journey into the intimacy of their harrowing shared experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aliyah \u2013 (3-4M,3-4W) When Aliyah, a recent convert to a new-age style church, is attacked and almost killed, she is thrust into a world of connection that she never dreamed possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exceptional People in Formal Attire \u2013 (3M,3W-3 parts specifically for disabled actors) It’s the summer of 1968 and in the ballroom of the Hotel Dupont, the members of The Delaware Association of the Handicapped have come together for a swell party now in full swing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Good Counselor – (2M, 3W) As a public defender attempts to mount a defense for a woman accused of killing her baby, the argument spills over from the courtroom into the community and finally into the psyche of the defense lawyer who must come to terms with his preconceptions about the capacities of mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House of Pi\u00f1atas – (3M,3W) In an abandoned mall in the Pocono\u2019s, the questionable therapists of \u201cLiving Waters\u201d  set out  to heal Dabney Hutchins of his \u201cunwanted same-sex urges.\u201d  But things get ugly when Mom turns up and an Aztec-inspired ritual degenerates into a no-holds barred slugfest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Khmer Shiva \u2013 (1M,1W) When a prized Hindu deity is stolen from a wealthy entrepreneur’s home, nature erupts and mysterious forces are unleashed that will change a family forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Order My Steps – (2W) An incarcerated woman meets with her estranged daughter after 20 years of silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wound of Love – (2M, 2W-and live musician, optional) After devoting a lifetime to music, Junis puts aside her beloved Florentine viola to discover the joy in a human connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bio:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathryn Grant\u2019s<\/strong> first play, The Wound of Love,<\/em> received the Berilla Kerr Award <\/strong>in playwriting and received productions at the Actors Studio, Penguin Repertory Theater, the John Houseman Theater and Provincetown Repertory Theater.\u00a0 The Good Counselor<\/em> received eight productions across the nation including Premiere Stages and 1st<\/sup> Stages in Washington, DC and garnered the Jerry Kaufman Award in Playwriting<\/strong> the Premiere Stages Festival Award<\/strong>, a citation from The Harold and Mimi Steinberg\/ATCA New Play\u00a0Award<\/strong> and a Helen Hayes nomination<\/strong> for best play in the Washington, DC region.\u00a0\u00a0 Handicapped People in Their Formal Attire <\/em>was presented at the American Renaissance Theater andreceived a workshop production at the Actors Studio.\u00a0 After winning the 2012 Premier Stages Festival Award<\/strong>, the play was produced at Premiere Stages. The Good Counselor<\/em> is published by Samuel French<\/strong> and is featured in Scenes and Monologues from the Steinberg\/ATCA New Play Award.\u00a0 <\/strong>Recently her play, <\/strong>Aliyah<\/em>received a citation from the Jerry Kaufman Award.\u00a0 A monologue from ORDER MY STEPS is featured in Smith and Krauss\u2019 Best Women\u2019s Monologues of 2022.\u00a0 <\/strong>Other plays including The Khmer Shiva, The House of Pi\u00f1atas<\/em> and The Alabaster Virgin <\/em>are in development at the Actors Studio PDU and The American Renaissance Theater (ARTC).\u00a0 She recently finished production on a film adapted from her latest play, Order My Steps <\/em>and The Good Counselor<\/em> is being adapted as a limited series with producer, Vicki McCarty of Covington International in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Grant holds a BFA from the Drama Division at Juilliard, an MA from Hunter College<\/strong>\u2019s Department of Theater and Film<\/strong> and a Doctorate in various forms of writing from Drew University<\/strong>.  She teaches Dramatic Writing and Screenwriting for St. Francis\u2019 College\u2019s<\/strong> undergraduate department of Communication Arts and in the graduate division for the MFA in Creative Writing<\/strong>.  She is one of several moderators, along with John Patrick Shanley, Lyle Kessler and Jose Rivera for the Playwright and Director\u2019s Unit of the Actor\u2019s Studio.  She served as Artistic Director and Board Member for the American Renaissance Theater Company and along with Carol Goldberg, created and administered the Jerry Kaufman Award in Playwriting for 10 years.  She lives in New York with actor and director, Ed Setrakian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
